Inspired by Brighton & Hove Trans Pride, in 2019 Bristol held its first Trans Pride march – marking, what felt to me, like a starting point for trans people in the city coming together to protest and celebrate ourselves. I've been photographing Bristol Trans Pride (originally called Trans Pride South West), along with other grass-roots protests and events, ever since.

 

These photos document the growth and transformation of trans pride and protest in Bristol; from small marches attended almost entirely by the trans community, to large-scale protests. They tell a story of community, joy and anger, and they attest to the power of grass-roots community organisation.
